What is NRT?
NRT is an individualized complementary program that may combine acupuncture, traditional East Asian medicine, Ayurvedic approaches and supportive lifestyle guidance for people receiving care for chronic eye conditions.
Does NRT replace standard eye care?
No. Patients must continue medications, injections, laser treatment, surgery and monitoring prescribed by their ophthalmologist. NRT does not diagnose eye disease or substitute for medical or surgical treatment.
Does NRT lower intraocular pressure?
NRT should not be represented as an intraocular-pressure-lowering treatment. Patients with glaucoma must maintain the target pressure and treatment plan established by their glaucoma specialist.
Who may be considered for NRT?
Suitability depends on the confirmed diagnosis, current medical stability, treatment goals, ability to participate and whether complementary care can be coordinated safely with existing treatment. A consultation is required.
What happens during treatment?
The program is individualized. It may include acupuncture sessions, traditional medicine assessment, lifestyle guidance and discussion of herbal products when appropriate. The exact plan and schedule depend on the person and condition.
How long does a course last?
Recommendations vary. A course may be scheduled over approximately two to four weeks, with follow-up based on response, diagnosis and clinical judgment. A timeframe does not guarantee a result.
How are changes evaluated?
Evaluation may combine patient-reported function—such as reading, glare, mobility, comfort or light sensitivity—with relevant testing performed by an eye-care professional. The same testing method and comparable conditions should be used whenever possible.
Can NRT restore permanently lost retinal or optic-nerve cells?
No responsible claim should state that permanently lost tissue is regenerated. The supportive goal is to optimize the environment and function of tissue that remains viable.
Can I stop injections or medication if I feel better?
No. Only the prescribing ophthalmologist should change injections, pressure-lowering drops, anti-inflammatory medication or other conventional treatment.
Are herbs automatically included?
No. Herbal products require individualized review for allergies, pregnancy, liver or kidney disease, anticoagulants and other medication interactions. Patients should disclose every medication and supplement.
What are the possible risks?
Acupuncture can cause temporary soreness, bruising, bleeding, lightheadedness or, rarely, more serious complications. Herbal products can cause side effects and interactions. Treatment should be delivered by appropriately licensed professionals with informed consent.
Is a result guaranteed?
Individual results vary and no specific visual, structural or symptom outcome can be guaranteed. Evidence, limitations, alternatives, costs and the continued need for ophthalmic care should be discussed before treatment.
